Each year Ballard & Ballard travels to Antwerp, Belgium to purchase diamonds.
We travel to Antwerp, Belgium because it is the “Diamond Capital of the World” where more than 80% of the world’s diamonds are cut, polished and sold.
This unique diamond market provides us the opportunity to select from diamond cuts, sizes, shapes, colors and clarities of unmatched quantity, quality and value in a single market location. It is a diamond buyer’s paradise.
In Antwerp, we also deal directly with the diamond cutters with no middle-men or brokers involved. This provides an incremental value in eliminating one level of the normal distribution channels. We save money and we pass that savings on to our customers through “pre-sales”.
Pre-sales are offered to our customers before each trip and also throughout the year as a member of our Antwerp Diamond Club.
When placing a pre-sale order, we act as your personal shopper while in Antwerp. We search for diamonds based on your specific criteria and price points. No order is too small or too large, and no special request is beyond the reach of our Antwerp suppliers.
How do we gain access to exclusive diamond market?
The answer is quite simple. We are members of IJO, Independent Jewelers Organization. This is the largest jewelry buying group in the world with over $900 million dollars in sales.
They provide access and we, along with other IJO member stores, are welcomed onto the cutting floors with open arms.
Why are Antwerp diamonds so special?
Diamonds are a symbol of love and romance and usually represent a significant and lifelong purchase.
In Antwerp, we search for diamonds of exceptional beauty. It’s all about “fire” and brilliance and this can only be measured with your heart and eyes.
Specifications such as cut, color and clarity are simply a starting point. Since no two diamonds are alike, diamonds with the same certifications can often differ dramatically in their appearance.
Why don’t we sell diamonds in a more traditional manner like other jewelers?
Well, we do. However, we believe in providing our customers with choices and opportunities.
Purchasing a diamond from Antwerp that is hand-picked just for you is a very special and unique experience. It represents a commitment to the very best in quality and value.
Being a jeweler is about sharing special moments with our customers. We love that. We get caught up in your lives and your stories and we love being a part of making your dreams come true. That is the Antwerp experience, for us and for you.
Diamonds – Did You Know?
In 1477, Archduke Maximilian of Austria gave a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy to signify his promise of marriage. He placed it on the third finger of her left hand, the finger believed by ancient Egyptians to have a vein that led directly to the heart. She accepted his proposal and the diamond engagement ring was born.
In 1947, a your copywriter Frances Gerety was told to go home for the weekend and come up with a tagline for an upcoming De Beers ad campaign. On Sunday morning she woke up with “A Diamond is Forever” and it has been the De Beers tagline ever since! “A Diamond is Forever” was voted Slogan of the Century by Advertising Age Magazine in 1999, and was most famously appropriated by Ian Flemming for James Bond as “Diamonds are Forever.”
It is estimated that only 2% of all women in the world will own a diamond of one carat or more. That single diamond will touch four continents and pass through hundreds of people as 250 tons of ore are mined and the diamond is cut, polished and set. More than 80% of these diamonds will pass through the Antwerp Diamond Center.

The Kimberley Process
The Kimberley Process is a government regulated system adopted in 2000 by more than 40 countries, the United Nations, and the diamond industry to control the import and export of diamonds accross borders. All Invoices for rough diamonds, polished diamonds, and diaomonds jewelry purchased by Ballard & Ballard Fine Jewelry includes the following warranty declaration:
“The diamonds herein invoiced have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved with funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions. The Seller hereby guarantees that these diamonds are conflict free, based on personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the supplier of these diamonds.”
Conflict diamonds are diamonds that may originate from areas once controlled by forces opposed to legitimate and internationally recognized governments, and used to fund military action in opposition to those governments. To eliminate the traffic in “conflicts diamonds” governments, the international diamond and jewelry industry, and non-governmental organizations have developed a solution that provides greater assurance to consumers about the legitimate origin of their diamonds and diamond jewelry
