Ballard & Ballard Fine Jewelers of Orange County has had a tradition of giving back, supporting both our local community national charities. We believe that being an active member of our community means being of service and supporting those in need. As a family business that has been operating for close to a century in Southern California, the mission of Ballard & Ballard Fine Jewelers consistently has reflected our family values and beliefs. Some people mistakenly characterize the jewelry industry as being caught in a cycle of promoting vanity and greed. We wholeheartedly disagree with this negative stereotype so we have made the decision to formalize our program of giving back.
In our showroom at our store, there is a jar set-up for donations. Rather than charge a client for a watch adjustment or a verbal appraisal, we ask them to make a donation to the Ballard Fund. At the end of the month, the funds are distributed appropriately by the Ballard Brothers. Thinking that the left hand doesn’t need to know what the right hand is doing, we do not publicize our donations and support. Now, however, we realize that we can greatly increase donation and do more good by creating The Ballard Gives Back Program and making the program official.
The dual focus of the Ballard Gives Back Program will be to address local community problems like children in trouble or victims of unfortunate accidents. We also will be supporting national causes like The Wounded Warriors Project that provides programs and services to severely injured service members to help with the transition to civilian life. The Ballard Brothers were honored to receive a letter from The Wounded Warriors Project that highlighted how each donation helps to continue the ongoing mission of the project. In the moving letter, the Chief Development Officer wrote how, “few things are more vital than reaching out to America’s service members as you did with your generous gift.”
Continuing the theme of supporting our veterans, the Ballard Gives Back Program also is supporting The Fisher House. This proactive foundation is best known for providing a network of homes where veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. The Ballard Brothers believe in the importance of helping both veterans and their families since they have given so much to our country. Ballard also supports The Littlest Tumor Foundation that funds research for preventive therapy and treatment for tumor growth in children. The causes of the Ballard Gives Back Program will be rotated monthly and each one will be promoted individually. In addition, client can suggest and recommend future causes that will be added to the queue if they fit in with The Ballard Gives Back Program.
The jewelry services that Ballard & Ballard Fine Jewelers will perform in exchange for an in-store donation to The Ballard Gives Back Program include the following:
- Replacing Watch Batteries
- Basic Watch Adjustments
- Verbal Appraisals
- Jewelry Consultation
- Cleaning Jewelry
- Inspecting Diamonds
- Small Repairs
It is important to note that none of these services are guaranteed. Certain services that fall under the above categories may not be included in the Ballard Gives Back Program on account of their specific needs and/or costs. The decision to include a service in the program can be made only by an employee of Ballard & Ballard Fine Jewelers.
Although we will ask a client to make a donation in exchange for the service, the donation is not a forced necessity and the client determines the amount of any such donation. The client will be given a receipt for the amount of such a donation for tax purposes. We want our clients to be an intrinsic part of our community when it comes to supporting causes and charities
What Ballard & Ballard Fine Jewelers of Orange County hopes is that the Ballard Gives Back Program will catch on and be charged by positive word of mouth. By offering these services in exchange for a donation, we believe our satisfied clients will tell their family, friends and co-workers about the program, greatly increasing the amount that the Ballard Gives Back Program can donate to such worthwhile causes and charities. Our ultimate goal in the end is not only to make you sparkle and shine with the best in fine jewelry, but also to help our community and country to sparkle and shine by giving back.
We have also had the pleasure of being a part of the annual fundraising Thomas House Shelter 10K run as a Bronze sponsor. The run happened on Saturday, March 1st, 2014 on what started out to be a sunny day but ended up being a little rainy.
Rain didn’t discourage over 1,000 participants from donating their time, effort and money to this very good local charity that helps homeless families with children. Hopefully we’ll see you out at future Thomas House events.
