“Diamonds are forever, my youth is not” -Jill St. John

Diamonds are natures ubiquitous beauty that symbolize a lifelong connection that two people can have with each other. While the processes we use to get a perfect diamond may have evolved over the years, the symbolic meaning has never faltered.

Over the years many engagement ring shoppers have faced a myriad of decisions to make on the cut, color, carat, shape, and setting of the ring. The origin of the diamond, however, has never really been up to question. That is, until recently.

As trends tend to lean away from higher priced one-time purchased items and more towards shared experiences the conversation about lab grown diamonds has begun to pick up as shoppers are looking for the best quality to price ratio in a diamond.

We’ve compiled a list of common questions buyers have about lab grown diamonds and made a basic’s course to lab grown diamonds to set the record straight about the perplexing gem. Check it out below!

What exactly is a lab grown diamond?

As the name implies, a lab grown diamond is a man-made diamond that can be made either in a lab, or in nature, with technological aides to speed up the natural process that can take millions of years on its own.

Is a lab grown diamond a REAL diamond?

Yes, while a lab grown diamond has man-made interventions to speed up the process, it is still a 100% quality diamond that you can mine from the earth in just a fraction of the time.

Can you tell the difference?

Not at all. The differences in carbon makeup between a lab grown diamond & a natural one do exist, but are very minute. Without specialized lab equipment & vast testing the normal consumer will not be able to tell a lab grown diamond from a three million old mined diamond.

Will it dull or break?

Over time yes, it can dull it’s shine just like a natural diamond when it's dirty, but also like natural diamonds it cannot be easily broken or damaged. Both can be easily cleaned for a new shiny appearence.

How much do lab grown diamonds cost?

On average a lab grown diamond can be anywhere from 30 to 40 percent more affordable compared to natrually mined diamonds. Several factors play into the price difference, but the biggest goes back to the way in whitch they are formed. Being created in man-made labs or in mines with man's intervention speeds up the process & uses less man power to harvest each individual diamond.

What if I’m scammed into purchasing a fake diamond instead of a natural one?

While this may be the fear of some it is nothing to worry about. Most jewelers across the nation, us included, are vetted by the Gemological Institute of America, and many diamonds come with a report included that decern if it is a lab grown diamond or a natural one.

Why should I purchase a lab grown diamond?

While the choice is entirely up to you, we are here to provide you the facts. A lab grown diamond tends to be less expensive than a natural diamond, and for some price is a factor. Since it is nearly impossible to tell the difference between a lab grown diamond, and a lab grown diamond will not break easily, it is a viable option for those who are looking at diamond substitutes such as cubic zirconia & morganite.

Lab grown diamonds are the newest technological advancement in the jewelry industry and offer a lot more options for those in the market for an engagement ring. While the final decsion is up to you, we hope we were able to answer any questions you have had about the diamond experience.
