The year is coming to a close, but our monthly birthstone series is holding strong till the end! This month it’s all things Citrine.
History
While not the bell of the ball, Citrine has still been cherished by people for thousands of years. Going back to the ancient Romans, all the way through modern history to both World Wars. Citrine has been a gem often overlooked, but never forgotten.
Citrine did have its moment in the spotlight during the 19th century when they were used to adorn the art deco inspired jewelry pieces worn by old Hollywood stars, such as Greta Garbo & Joan Crawford.
In the 21st century Citrine is seen as far less rare then it was even 100 years ago, and is having its own renaissance in a way. People are falling for it’s golden glow & affordability. Many women today are loving the inexpensive and beautiful earth toned gemstone.
Mystical Properties
Many of the ancients believed that wearing this earth tone could help aid the body when it came to all kinds of infections, from healing Kidney Disease to purifying one’s own internal self.
Some even believed that soaking the stone in water would create an elixir of sorts that would purify and heal the body from the inside out. It is a stone that was often sought out to help even out your body’s hormones and even regulate your body to keep equilibrium.
Physical Properties
Citrine is often mined & found in crystals similar to Amethyst, but is far more rare. The stone can be mined all over the world, with the largest supplier coming from the mines of modern day Brazil.
When it comes to caring for your Citrine, while it is strong enough to withstand everyday wear and tear, it is suggested to protect it when not wearing it. It also should not be left to sit in direct sunlight for long periods of time as it can alter the color of the stone.
Citrine is a beautiful gem that is often overlooked, and it is the birthstone of those born in the month of November. From ancient times to Hollywood stars, this gemstone is sure to make an impact in your life as it shines like the glow of the sun!
