“Emeralds, as well as glass, will shine when the light is shed on them.” -Unknown

As April showers fade into the blooming of May flowers, and spring rolls in, we wanted to celebrate all who are born in the months of May by discussing the history & spiritual properties of the Emerald, the birthstone of May babies.

The Highest of Honors

Dating back to ancient Egyptians, emeralds often adorned the necklaces and jewelry worn by none other than Cleopatra herself. Emeralds were often the symbol of Fertility & Immortality, so they covered the palaces of Egypt. When foriegn leaders were welcomed into the palace they often left with gifts adorned with emeralds to show the level of wealth the Egyptian goddess had

Mystical Properties

In many ancient civilizations emeralds were seen as sacred talisman, used to protect its owners from inflictions, both physically and spiritually. Being a stunning shade of green, and unlike anything else, these gems were also thought to cut through any illusions or spells that may follow its owner.

Ancient Offerings

Being unlike any other gemstone emeralds were often used as ancient offerings to the gods in Greek & Roman times. The sharp green hues were thought to be otherworldly, and often sought out to be a gift to certain deities as a way of symbolizing the moon, just as gold symbolized the sun.

Modern Day

In more modern times, emeralds were thought to represent the kindness of Christ, and the new testament. The unmistakable green hue of emeralds still grabs peoples attention everyday. Emeralds are seen as the birthstone of those born in the month of May, and are still used in contemporary pieces as a very complimentative accent gem. We love Emeralds, and we definitely think they are here to stay in their mesmerizing color.
