What Is A Bypass Ring?

What Is A Bypass Ring?

A bypass ring, also called a crossover ring, is a ring where the band coils around the finger and the ends do not meet to form a closed circle. The ends of the coiled band then pass each other on the top of the ring.

Bypass engagement ring designs have existed for centuries. This style became very popular during the Victorian period (1830s-1860s). These rings were designed with elegant swirls and curves. Bypass rings have continued to be used as engagement and wedding rings ever since.

The bypass ring design gives a ring a stylish, elegant, and textural appearance. Here is additional information about bypass rings.

What Makes A Bypass Ring Unique?

The design of bypass rings sets them apart from other styles since the band separates, effectively becoming two sections. Unlike a continuous band, the band is parted in this design, and the ends are either separated or overlapped, with added detail, texture, and design.

What is the Meaning of a Bypass Ring?

A bypass ring design features a single metal band with two ends, often together holding a diamond or gemstone. This design is symbolic of two individuals coming together as one while simultaneously retaining their individuality.

Types of Bypass Engagement Ring

The typical bypass ring features a single centered gemstone held together by both ends of the metal band. While the two ends don't meet, together, they hold the center stone.

Moi et Toi

A Moi et Toi, or "me and you," ring design features two gemstones. There are several variations of this style. The most common variation is each end holding different gemstones or diamonds representative of each partner in the couple.

Bypass Pave Wedding Ring

If you prefer a vintage look, the bypass pave is the design of choice. One way to emphasize a vintage look is to choose rose or yellow gold. Also, consider details like filigree or milgrain (tiny dots along the edges).

If a geometric style is preferred, consider an art deco period design.

For a nature-inspired design, think Victorian and Edwardian periods.

A bypass engagement ring is a perfect choice for someone who desires and loves a unique and stylish look. With the design versatility of a bypass ring, you're sure to find a style that you will love.
